A real world "road test" of a 45watt system.
I used the 45 watt solar panel charging kit with my motorhome for a whole summer last year. At a cost of just $199.99 plus shipping, it it one of the better deals out there for a complete system. I was truely impressed with it's ability to keep a small deepcycle charged enough for almost on going TV watching, computer use, movie watching, ect. It did all this while also having enough energy left over for running the included two 12 volt flourescent light bulbs, for night reading.
It has very solid construction, and is VERY EASY to use: Set up frame, set panels on frame. Point towards the sun. All panels have a red wire and a black wire, with eyed ends on them. Hook the red wires to the red knob on the back of the silver box (charge controller), and the black wires to the black knob. Hook wires (supplied) from controler to battery, using jumper cable clips. (supplied) That is it, now you have a plug in lighting system for your cabin.
Want television? A small inverter, the kind that plugs into a ciarette lighter, maybe used to run small items such as TV, DVD Players, video games, computers, ect. The inverter plugs into the controler using a cigarette socket, factory mounted to the front of the unit.
This truely is a gem of a unit, and I plan to use it at my mini cabin. I will infact, use 3 sets of them, totalling under $600 for 135 watts of charging power, which is a pretty good deal anywhere.
Why solar and wind?
Most people use solar and wind turbines for power, because of the cost involved in running "real" electricity. I am very involed in the "green movement" I believe we should all practice a sustainable living style and stop being a wasteful society. But that is a fantasy, not many are willing, or able to give up all their comforts, in an effort to help a planet.
The truth is, I own a corner lot, with power on two sides. This also includes a ugly transformer, which blocks my morning veiw. Originally, a cell phone company was going to build a cell phone tower on it, and ran out of money or went bankrupt or something. That is how it ended up on the market during this down economy, and I was able to purchase it. It would cost less to hook to this grid than what I have spent, and someday, yes they will make me hook to it, telling me how much I really need it.
I will (again) comply, after much tantrum throwing...

Yeah, it will likely be something incredible. And that i love how successful solar panels have become, even ultra thin, flexible solar panels. I'd passion for solar power that they are the solution. In fact, all of our energy is a variety of power from the sun, as well as oil.
Thanks For the info,
it is very informative.
