Small Wind Turbines do they work?
My friend had a fourty two foot sailboat with a wind turbine charger on it to keep his batteries fresh, as he crossed from Hawaii to the Mainland. On a sailboat it worked great as he sailed through the breeze.
But what happens when they are standing still? Do they still put out enough electricity to be worth their cost for a small remote cabin?

Solar or Wind Power?
I use solar power alot and have for years. The technology was new when I was a boy, and it facinated me how you could charge a battery with the sun. I have always been interested, from a laymans point, about solar energy. I thought solar operated items should have caught on quicker than it did.
But solar panels have a draw back to them, if you live as I do, in the Northern US. In late fall the day light hours grow too few, and are so grey that they leave you with un-charged batteries.
A perfect solution is a small wind turbine charger. As winter starts to show it's nasty head, the wind turbine charger will start to shine. Long after any solar panel retires for the night, the wind turbine will keep on working as long as there is a breeze.
Try a little Variety, they say...
For my own mountain cabin, I will mount a small wind turbine to the roof gable, out of the way of destruction, I hope. As I live in the North, this item will most likely out charge my solar panels, as far as usable energy goes...
I believe that by using a combination of both the sma wind turbine, and solar energy, I should not have to run a generator for anything other than construction project, for power tools.

Very interesting. Where did you get the turbine? I have been trying to figure out how to survive off the grid, but I don't know where to start on products. Thanks.
